My whole life long I have been an “open person”, or so I thought. Been using social media before it even had a name. Sending out an image of myself, carefully curated to be the best I can be through my writing, carefully dotting every i (spelt correctly), crossing every T. Showing my mastery of language through the correctness of being.
Yet, recently I had the feeling to write about me, my feelings; after all as a person, as a human being, this was what I was trying to achieve. Showing off my skill, my ability. Using my ability to spell, use words correctly, in context, always the master of the written word. I excelled (or so I believed) at showing that a thousand words had some meaning.
Then yesterday, an algorithm informed me that I “Had Been Hacked”. On my behalf, it had acted to prevent this unknown user (the real me) from posting and sharing what was clearly “Not Me”.
Over twenty years of writing my thoughts, my experiences, in my way, and I was informed, quite authoritatively, I have been hacked. And that as part of the service I receive, it has acted on my behalf and erased my past 40 or so posts because it was obvious that it was not me.
I needed a software program, an algorithm, a social media platform to tell me that I am not me?
Is that what we all have become?
